Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit survivingALS.com. Our goal is to assist Dave and his entire family while they battle this unforgiving disease. One way in which we can all assist in this effort, is to contribute towards various fundraising events as they become available.
This year, I will once again be participating in the Maine State Marathon and utilizing this opportunity to raise funds for Dave. The race is scheduled for October 1st and details of the event can be viewed by visiting the race website (www.mainemarathon.com).
The plan this year is to run the entire marathon via a relay team consisting of Jon Pinette, Adam Smith and myself. Both Jon and Adam are seasoned runners who were very eager to participate and assist in the fundraiser. I am very fortunate to be a member of this team and anticipate a strong effort on race day.
Please assist us in helping Dave and his family address their immediate needs as they continue to battle this disease. You may sponsor our team by making a donation through this website with your credit card or by sending survivingALS your donation. Please indicate the event, Maine Marathon, when making your donation. You may also contact me directly to make a donation. Thank You!
Sincerely,
Jim Charest

Jim Charest presents David with the donations he gathered running The Portland Half Marathon
survivingALS.com founders Michael and David LaFayette.
survivingALS took the Halloween Harvest Fest on the road this year to Auburn, Maine! Included were the exhibits that have been featured on Boston's evening news stations since 2001. The festival drew 150 people to help raise money for David's ALS treatments.
The Harvest Fest included dinner, cash bar, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and attendees received door prizes. Six prizes were also awarded for various costume genres.
Jim Charest also presented David with a check for the funds that he raised running in Portland's Half Marathon
The Sportshoe Center Maine Marathon featured an out-and-back course for l three races -- marathon, relay and half marathon. Jim Charest competed in the half marathon race to raise money for survivingAls.com on behalf of David LaFayette.

The marathon and relay continued along Route 88 to Yarmouth for a 2.5-mile loop around a rural neighborhood before rejoining Route 88 for the return trip to Portland. The marathon course featured a mixture of rolling hills and flat sections between Miles 4 and 17, and was mostly flat or downhill for the final nine miles.
